SPREAD KINDNESS
Paper Hugs Project was created to bring warmth, connection, and joy to residents of local nursing homes in NWA through handwritten cards.
A simple note can be a powerful reminder: you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone. With the help of events and community volunteers—children, teens, adults, and families—we deliver heartfelt cards to nursing home residents who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation.
Each card is a paper hug—small, thoughtful, and full of love.
OUR MISSION
SMALL CARDS.
🩷
BIG LOVE.
To spread kindness and connection through handwritten cards for nursing home residents.
Hi! My name is Charlotte K., and I founded The Paper Hug Project in February of 2026. I first started writing cards during my freshman year of high school. Every Friday or so, we would write cards to different people, including residents of retirement homes. This program was discontinued at the start of my junior year, but I wanted to find someway to continue it.
In 2024, my baba moved to Arkansas while she was very sick. She spent a lot of time in the hospital and in a rehabilitation center, when she was finally discharged, she moved into a retirement home. At first the transition was rocky-retirement homes can be a lot like high school-but overtime she began to find her people.
Over the past two years, I watched her go through many hardships, and no matter how often we visited, she still couldn't help but feel isolated. It's hard to feel free when you are sick and confined to a hospital. That experience is why I founded The Paper Hug Project: To bring a sense of community to seniors who may feel the same way my baba did. In the future, I hope to see this grow into something seniors can find hope in-not just a card, but a hug.
